Young people's ministry at Christ Church

At Christ Church our young people are involved with a 24/7 Christian lifestyle. In order to support them in this lifestyle choice we have Cell Life.

Cell life is a community where we try to support each other in becoming more like Jesus in our everyday lives. We have young people and adults in our community and we all support each other. We believe that God is calling us to this 24/7 lifestyle and in order to help us we have 6 values to follow.

  • Jesus at the Centre
  • Everyone taking part
  • Caring Community
  • Everyone growing
  • Servant-heartedness
  • Loving the Lost
Cell values bookmark
You can also download a bookmark with our values on, to help serve as a daily reminder.
We want these values to run through everything that we do, whether as individuals or as a group. We also believe that we all have gifts and skills whether it's serving, leading or prophecy or any other gift and that we can use them whatever our age and we want to use these in the life of our church. We believe that God is asking us to help other people get to know him - so to not only be the people that he made us to be but to help others to do this as well.

To help us support each other we have a number of ways to link up with others. We have monthly celebrations where we can all come together and worship God. At this we run a café which is suitable for people to bring their friends along to. We meet up with each other and with our cell pastors for hot chocolate and chat. We meet socially at various points during the week at small groups or as the whole group. We talk to each other and communicate via e-mail, Facebook, MSN and all sorts of other ways. We meet up with prayer partners or just to help each other though difficult times. We get together for meals such as breakfast or pizza. We sometimes visit other churches such as Soul Survivor in Watford. We are also all attached to a small group who meet on a weekly basis.

Ever wanted to be able to ask lots of difficult questions? Ever wondered about the meaning of life?

Then here is your opportunity. A Youth Alpha course is running every Thursday from 7:30pm till 9:00pm at the church centre. All young people (aged 11 - 18) are welcome to come along and find out more, ask questions and have some food and fun. Contact Louise Douglas on ypl@christchurchware.co.uk for more information.

(Normal cell meetings are suspended for this term as all you people meet together weekly to do the Alpha course).

What about Sunday Mornings?

Sunday mornings are another opportunity for us to carry on living out our Cell values. Traditionally it is the day when people go to church and, although we are living as 24/7 Christians and therefore Sunday is just like any other day, often it is when the whole family of God get together in one place. Isaiah 58:13 calls us to stop doing and saying as we please on the Sabbath and to keep it as a day of joyful worship. Worship is about showing God how much he is worth and this is how we are going to be worshipping God on a Sunday morning.

1st Sunday of the month

This is the service when Baptisms could take place and so there are often lots of extra people in church. So, this is where you get to serve in a specific Sunday ministry of the church. You could offer to help with crèche, get involved with leading some of Children's church, do a reading in church, serve the refreshments, get involved in talks or worship, learn how to operate the sound and visual system or anything else that you can think of! You will need to have a conversation with Louise or your cell pastor about the area you would like to help in so that we can link you up with the right people – please do not just assume you can turn up and help in a different place each time!

2nd Sunday of the month

Prayer is a vital part of all of our lives and so we are going to be meeting together to have a time of prayer after which we will go into the morning service and join in with communion. The prayer will be led by different people and in different styles – have a think about how you could lead one of these times.

3rd Sunday of the month

This is Love in Action Sunday. A group of people – both young and old, go out to serve their community. We do a range of different things that benefit the people who live in Ware. This will depend on the time of year and could include washing cars, clearing ice from pavements, washing windscreens, playing football or anything else that is useful. If you have any suggestions about things that could be done please talk to Alison Jackson. We meet at 10.30am in the church car park ready to go out and serve.

4th Sunday of the month

This week we will be in the service along with the rest of the church family. The service starts at 11am and it is a celebration of all that God has been doing over the last month as well as time to listen to God and engage with him. This will have time and space for stories to be shared by all sorts of different people including the young people!

5th Sunday of the month (where they exist!)

This is another opportunity to serve in any of the different aspects of church family life on a Sunday morning or to be in the service with the rest of the church family.
Cell Life is good fun and we learn a lot together. If anyone would like to get involved in Cell Life in any way we would love you to let us know. Please talk to one of the young people’s Cell Life team or contact Louise Douglas (ypl@christchurchware.co.uk).

Your Cell Life group
(Suspended during this term while we run the Youth Alpha course)

Every young person is linked up to a small who meet up on a weekly basis for a meeting in someone’s home. This is either led by the cell pastor of this group or by a peer leader. At this meeting we follow a plan of Welcome, Worship, Word and Witness. We share around the leading of this group so that everyone gets an opportunity to try out their gifts.

These small groups are also there to support each other and your cell pastor is the person to talk to about anything!
